Council 64 Update – October 3, 2016

Council 64 Update – October 3, 2016

To all Council 64 Members,

As of the first of the new year Council 64 will merge with Council 42 in IAH to form one unified Council with a single set of Officers and Committees. This merge is mandated by our AFA-CWA Constitution and By-Laws. The Council number in a merge of this type is also mandated in the C&Bs as being the lowest numbered Council, hence in IAH we will ALL be Council 42 from Jan 1 2017 onward.

In the last several weeks we have held two MEC meetings – Tue 9/6/26, and on Tue-Thur 9/20-22. The first of these meetings was to elect the Temporary Officers of the combined MEC, and to discuss moving forward as a combined entity. As most of you are aware, our new Temporary MEC Officers are:

Ken Diaz- MECP
Adam Novish- MECVP
Jeff Heisey- MEC Sec/Treas

Their temporary term will last through June of 2017, when we will elect a new slate of Officers for a full 3 year term.

Also at this meeting we set the dates for the special elections which will be held in all bases where we have dual councils. The bases affected are EWR, IAD, ORD, IAH, DEN, SFO, and LAX. These elections will all conclude by Dec 21, and the new 3 year terms of office will start on Jan 1, 2017 as mentioned above. Any member in good standing is eligible to run for office in these elections. For details, go to afacwa.org and follow the links to the “Elections” page. The election dates are as follows:

At the MEC meeting on the 20th-22nd, William Sanders represented Council 64. At this meeting the discussions centered around the organizational aspect of the combined MEC, consolidation of resources, some preliminary committee structure talks, and the items that needed to be considered more in depth. These items will be on the agenda at the next MEC meeting. William will be making a detailed report on the meeting in the next several days. We will include that report in our October newsletter if there is time before publishing it. Otherwise, the report will be in a separate e-blast which will come to your inbox. I can’t express my gratitude enough to Will for taking our proxy forward to the meeting. This shows the importance of having a strong experienced team working for you at the local. We always have each others backs.

The next MEC meeting will be in Houston in Jan 2017. I highly recommend as many of you as possible attend that meeting to show your MEC that you are involved and concerned about the path we take forward with our Union.

Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.
