CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE CALLS FOR HOUSE AND SENATE LEADERSHIP TO END THE PARTIAL SHUTDOWN OF THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION
Please join Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee as she calls on Congress to return to session in order to pass the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act. As Ranking Member of the Transportation Security Subcommittee of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Congresswoman Jackson Lee will meet with airport officials at Bush Intercontinental Airport to observe and explain the implications of the partial shutdown of the Houston Airport System. The negative impact on the Airport and Airway Trust Fund have resulted in furloughed employees and stop work order measures that have halted construction on key infrastructure projects, such as the $25 million dollar construction of the replacement TRACON air traffic control system facility located in Houston.
This appearance will take place at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Terminal C, upper level, at 10:30am CDT, on Thursday August 4, 2011.
Representative Jackson said–“I consider the safety and security of the traveling public as a paramount concern. However, we must not allow the safety of American passengers and the security of American jobs to be compromised for political gain.”
Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, D-18th Tx District, will be joined by Mr. Mario Diaz, Director of the Houston Airport System and the Houston Airport System community.
Congresswoman Jackson Lee’s congressional district includes George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), the world’s sixth busiest airport, which has been directly impacted by the shutdown.
