Your AFA CAL MEC Negotiating Committee met with the company on Monday March 5, 2012 to present opening proposals.  We based our opening proposals on the immediate needs expressed by the membership that are necessary to bridge us to a joint agreement. While we were at the table, we took the opportunity to discuss the Company’s evolving business plan and its potential impact on our membership – much of which was expressed in a company memo this past weekend. Mergers are a complex undertaking requiring a deliberate approach to reach the goal of a combined contract but first we must reach a single bridge agreement that provides necessary enhancements.  Both parties have agreed to work diligently on laying the required cornerstones to moving toward joint talks. Management agreed to continue negotiations and we expect to have dates by week’s end.  We will issue updates as developments occur.  Your unity and support are essential to achieving the necessary enhancements and protections required before we can move into combined negotiations.

In Solidarity,
